WIN a Blackmagic Cinema Camera
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera has created such a buzz in the past months that it is impossible to ignore. Who hasn’t been drooling over this wonderbox of potential at the decent price point. In our business, offering stock footage for download and use, image quality is key and we’ve seen plenty of awesome and not so awesome footage. Of course, the photographer is usually to blame in this respect, but the equipment is also pretty darn important and it is especially so when it comes to video.
So far, only a couple of people have had the opportunity to play around with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, or BMCC as it is sometimes referred to. One of them is John Brawley, the lucky fella! He has produced some magnificent footage with the camera, and it just stands to show what it is capable of. If you have not already seen his ungraded and graded shots, you can take a look here.
This year has really seen an interesting development on the side of image quality coming from pro-DSLRs. Both with the introduction of the Canon 5dmk3 and the Nikon d800, many a photographer and videographer got some serious thinking to do, as they are all gadget freaks and always chase the best possible image quality. While the mk3 would probably better the d800 on video overall it does not have any options to deliver uncompressed, but on the other side the Nikon has some moire issues etc etc..read it before? It is all over the place these days hehe. Did you know the d800 sensor got the highest score ever given by DxOMark? Yes, you did know that of course, but let’s not forget the d800e, how would that be for creating some sweet and super sharp time-lapse shots…heh? That’s a definite winner – for sure!
And along comes the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, at a lower price point, a 2.5k sensor, excellent color depth, delivering uncompressed codecs ready-to-go, compatible with most pro DSLR lenses these days (yes, we all want the zeiss compact primes..) and it looks – eh, quite good. Or, actually, the more we look at it the better we like it. In fact, it looks exactly like it should – it’s beautiful!
We have been around long enough to understand that this new camera from Blackmagic Design is going to create a stir in the market, and maybe mostly so for the 5dmk3 and the low-to-mid-range video cameras. It probably already has, and the funny thing is it’s not even available yet (at least not at the time of writing this post). So many have pre-ordered this camera, that it is going to be really interesting to see how long the wait will be until it is possible to walk into a store and buy one.
We are suckers of course, and have actually pre-ordered a few ourselves, so if you were planning to wait until they hit the stores this is you lucky day because we are going to give them away – to some of YOU! We like the BMCCs so much, and want to keep them for ourselves, but we’ll only be able to hold the boxed camera’s for a couple of minutes when they finally arrive, and then immediately hand them over to be shipped to whomever of you are lucky enough to win one from us. That’s a promise!
Without further ado – you are hereby invited to take part in our Clipcanvas Photo Contest where you can win one of our pre-ordered Blackmagic Cinema Cameras – Good luck!
The winners are contacted directly via email and also announced on our blog on December 13th for Stage 2. Deadline for submissions for Stage 2 was December 1st 2012 at 22:00 GMT+1.
Disclaimer, rules and regulations: STAGE 2: Entries for the 2nd-12th Prizes ended December 1, 2012 at 22:00 GMT+1, and winners are announced on December 13, 2012. Clipcanvas.com is not responsible for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, incomprehensible, illegible, damaged, undeliverable or delayed. You may only enter and submit photos you own the copyright to. STAGE 2: The 2nd Prize is ANOTHER Blackmagic Cinema Camera body which is valued at $2,995 (the “2nd Prize”). Lens is not included. The 2nd Prize is awarded by a jury of 5 people (still to be announced) from a selection of 50 photos shortlisted by Clipcanvas. The 3rd-12th Prizes is one of our exclusive(!) felt doll mascots and are awarded by Clipcanvas directly – for the top 10 images WE enjoyed the most. All residents outside of Norway are responsible for shipping fees and your country taxes (..but shipping costs for the 3rd-12th Prizes are covered by Clipcanvas). Winners have 14 days to accept and coordinate shipping and delivery. If a winner does not respond within 14 days, their Prize is forfeited and a replacement winner will be randomly selected from the qualified contestants. The 2nd Prize is currently on backorder from the manufacturer, and final delivery may not take place until this Prize has been physically delivered to us from our supplier. Is it at all possible to enter in an alternate method? I do not have a Facebook account (but have several friends that do and would vote) but I do follow you on Twitter and by email. I would be happy to email my info and photo to you or something. Thanks!!
@Jacob – sorry, we are relying on a third party app for running the contest via fb, and after checking it is not possible to enter outside of fb. The reason for this is also that the random draw is made via the app. However, you do have a valid point and we’ll certainly take this into consideration the next time we’re running a contest…might not be so far away either.
Voting question – how does the one vote per week work? Is that calendar week (Sun-Sat) or is it a literal 7 days from the last time you voted? Thanks!
@Jacob – yes, good point and thanks for bringing that up! It should be one vote per 7 days. We’ll update that part of the text asap. The system is automatic in this respect, so it keeps track of dates and times for voting, and allows another vote from the same person on the same entry only after 7 days has passed. Hope that helps clarify!
Thanks for all the interest and feedback we have received so far and at least one aspect is worth a mention. We have got some comments about this contest taking place on facebook and the subsequent need for an fb-account to participate, thus excluding those that have no need for an fb-account or do not want one. That’s a valid argument of course – point taken and thank you! All we can say for now is that we have more than one cinema camera on pre-order, and we haven’t decided what to do with the rest yet, but we’ll certainly take your feedback into consideration.
What if most of my friends don’t use Facebook? (Here in Russia Facebook is not popular at all). If i tell them to register an account only to vote for me, is it legal?
@Vladimir – Yes, good point. Several have asked about facebook and not having an account. We are considering running another round directly here on Clipcanvas next time – but that is after this Contest is finished in November. We do not think getting friends to create a fb-account “just to vote” is a good way to go…maybe better to wait for the next chance or trust your luck with one entry? Remember, it is not the one with the MOST votes that wins – all votes count as a “ticket” in the final draw and you can also vote for yourself once per 7 days. We are going to make sure that ALL users of Clipcanvas will be notified and get a chance in the next round!
Contest update: We have added a STAGE 2 to the Contest and a 2nd Prize which is ANOTHER Blackmagic Cinema Camera…for Stage 2 we also included shortlisting and a human jury! So now you have 2 chances of winning one
– visit our facebook contest tab and read the updated rules!!
Sorry, why can’t i open the canvasclip page on facebook? everytime i click the link, it doesn’t show clipcanvas page, it directed to home. I’m from indonesia
Thanks
Hey Great contest! Can you submit more than one photo? Also is there a shorter ULR to just my entry? when I share the link…it shows up really long? Thanks!
@Atsavin – yes, thanks for letting us know! It should be ok now, so could you please try again?
@Kevin – thanks for reaching out to us. For this contest we set it so you can only submit one photo (one entry per person). We’re not really sure about formatting the direct link to your entry though…inside facebook the easiest thing is to use the Share-button below your photo. If you want to shorten that link for external use, or more visually pleasing sharing/posting, then you may have to rely on some url-shortening service (like bit.ly etc) but we’re not 100% sure that would work..(maybe you could try it with one of your friends first..?) In any case, we’ll look into it and post back if we find another solution.
Important contest update: Stage 1 is now officially closed – no more voting and the data is secured for picking a winner for this first Blackmagic Cinema Camera. This one darn lucky winner of Stage 1 will be announced on Friday the 9th of November. Are you ready for it?
For Stage 1, you all entered 826 photos with a total of 17,185 votes! Flabbergasting!!
In the UPCOMING Stage 2 (!), where you can ALSO win a Blackmagic Cinema Camera, only your artistic expression and skill to capture the moment will count – and the 5 people Jury for selecting those winners will be announced and presented shortly. All your current entries will be included, as well as any new entries to be made until December 1st.
We are truly grateful to you for taking part in this and we think the scope images you represent are amazing!
THANK YOU!!
How can we post a photo and enter if we do not want to sign up for facebook?
Hi Wayne – good point and thanks for asking. This has been raised before actually, both here (see Jacob and a few others comments above, and answers..), and via email to support.
All I can say is that we are going to host another contest later, to make up for this. We understand and respect the reluctance from people to join FB in order to enter, but we can’t do anything about it just now. What we can do is learn from this, and make it different next time. Hope you understand.
We will host another contest early next year, directly from Clipcanvas, and we have already ordered more than the two cameras awarded in this contest.
An incredible collection of photos were entered to win our 2nd Blackmagic Cinema Camera – you are all amazing! Take a moment to browse through these images if you can. The Clipcanvas Photo Contest is now officially closed and the Top 50 Shortlist and 5 Person Jury will be presented soon.
You can check out all the amazing photos on our Facebook Contest page.
